Foreigners expected to dominate Rimsky Trophy

THREE-YEAR-OLDS TWO

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The 2024 Rimsky Trophy, a three-year-old non-two for locally bred horses, and a maiden for foreigners (three and four-year-olds) at six furlongs is the fourth of nine races on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

Seven horses are entered in the Rimsky with five being foreigners, and also first-time starters.

The Quick Galloper’s assessment of the seven entered is provided below.

1 - RICHES TO RAGS is a three-year-old chestnut filly (USA April 21) by Union Rags out of Place Des Vosges, trained by Phillp Feanny with jockey Dane Dawkins riding. This filly has caught the full attention of early morning clockers, during her extensive preparation for this event. Has galloped four furlongs several times with a 50.0 seconds clocking on January 8, working with Amazing Force. A good effort is expected from Riches To Rags.

2 – LUCY IN THE SKY is a three-year-old filly (March 23) by Liquidity out of Tap A Bay Yankee, trained by Jason DaCosta with Roger Hewitt aboard. One of the two locals racing against the foreigners. Lucy In The Sky has to be placed on the waiting list.

3 - FUNCAANDUN is a three-year-old bay colt (USA April 13) by Klimt out of Fiftyshadesoffun, trained by Jason DaCosta with Shamaree Muir in the saddle. Enters the track for a first competitive run after steady preparation by his trainer. Galloped five furlongs straight in a time of 1:00.1 on January 6, and then followed with a 1:07.0 clocking over 5 ½ furlongs on January 13. Funcaandun is ready.

4 – CLEOPATRA QUEEN is a three-year-old bay filly (USA March 16) by St Patrick’s Day out of Caribbean Queen, trained by Al Brown with Javaniel Patterson in the saddle. Made her debut on December 30, 2023, without rattling any feathers. Time needed.

5 - AMAZING FORCE is a three-year-old bay colt (USA May 9) by Leofric out of White Wedding Day, trained by Philip Feanny with Tevin Foster aboard. Another foreigner, who has gained quite a few followers in the mornings. Amazing Force galloped three furlongs in 37.2 seconds on December 30, and four furlongs in 49.3 seconds on January 8. The talk is strong that Amazing Force is poised to get off the mark, the first time out.

6 – OH SO SMART is a three-year-old chestnut filly (May 24) by Soul Warrior out of Patchwork, trained by Steven Todd with Matthew Bennett riding. This locally bred filly won in her only start, December 10, 2023, at four furlongs. While the foreigners based on exercise will probably dominate the betting, Oh So Smart cannot be taken out of winning contention.

7 – K D STRONG is a four-year-old chestnut filly by Wicked Strong out of Corfe Castle, trained by Gary Subratie with Robert Halledeen in the saddle. Ha been heavily backed on his two outings to date, producing lukewarm performances. The best option is a place on the board.
