The Philip Feanny-trained American-bred horse Gilbert made a winning  return after a two-month layoff, securing his third victory on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

Competing in a race for native-bred five-year-olds and upward (non-winners of four) as well as imported five-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) over 5 furlongs straight, Gilbert displayed his well-being.

Jockey Shane Richardson initially held Gilbert back, trailing behind the pack in the five-horse race. Talona (Raddesh Roman) took the lead, followed by Shrewsbury Norm (Paul Francis), Phoenix Risen (Oneil Mullings), and Traditional Lady (Prince Holder).

As they approached the dummy rails, Richardson spurred Gilbert on to accelerate. The chestnut horse responded by overtaking competitors on the outside within the final furlong to secure victory by three-quarter length in a time of 1:01.1 (23.0 x 47.2).

Traditional Lady staged an impressive comeback to take second place, while Shrewsbury Norm managed to clinch third. The win marked both Feanny's and Richardson's first triumph in the 2024 racing season.
