KINGSTON, Jamaica – The seventh event on Saturday, December 16, 2023, features a three-year-old and up Open Allowance race spanning seven furlongs.
Despite only five horses participating, a close contest is expected.
An analysis of the five starters is provided below:
1 – PERFECT BREW: After finishing fifth in the Mouttet Mile, Perfect Brew has proven himself as a formidable come-from-behind competitor. The seven-furlong distance suits his style well. At the top of the handicaps and experienced at this level, Perfect Brew has a strong chance of scoring his ninth career victory.
2 – FREEDOM STREET: Unable to outpace Desert of Malibu and I've Got Magic in the 6.5-furlong Bruceontheloose Sprint, Freedom Street has yet to secure a win in Open Allowance. Expected to be an early front-runner, he could make an impact if left unchallenged. Note that Freedom Street will race without a tongue tie.
3 – RANI BANGALA: Her performance dipped in the St. Elizabeth Distaff (one mile) on November 11 following an impressive run in the Overnight Allowance class. Rani Bangala is the race's true speed and could emerge victorious if unchecked in the lead. A 12-pound drop in weight combined with a one-furlong shorter distance works in her favor.
4 – RAINSVILLE: Delivering his best performance to win the Chairman's Trophy (nine furlongs and 25 yards) at Overnight, Rainsville now faces Open Allowance competition with 2.5 fewer furlongs—a potential challenge. However, his rapid progress cannot be denied, and he is expected to be competitive at the finish.
5 – LABAN: Moving up in class, Laban may struggle against tougher competition.
