KINGSTON, Jamaica - The countdown to the 2023 Mouttet Mile, the richest race in the English speaking Caribbean, has begun.
The race will take place on Saturday, December 2, at Caymanas Park.
The Quick Galloper examines the provisional list of starters in an effort to identify the potential 16 contenders for the Mouttet Mile.
1 - ROUGH ENTRY has been specifically brought from Florida to compete in the Mouttet Mile.
2 - EASY AS A.B.C has had two disappointing performances on the track since arriving. Doubts remain about participation in the Mouttet.
3 - AMERICAN TAP made a remarkable winning debut over the five straight course before failing to show in the St Elizabeth Distaff. American Tap will enter the starting gates for the Mouttet Mile if she remains healthy.
4 - ATOMICA is confirmed as a starter.
5 - MAMMA MIA is one of the leading three-year-olds but has struggled in higher grades. Likely to start.
6 - SHE'S MY DESTINY has been specially prepared for the Mouttet Mile.
7 - THALITA rarely exercises and will not start.
8 - MAHOGANY made sure of his qualification with two consecutive wins over 14 days. He will in the Mouttet Mile filed once fit and proper.
9 - MOJITO, one of the leading three-year-olds, will start if fit and healthy.
10 - RUNAWAY ALGO, despite a lackluster performance in the recent 9 ½ furlong Jamaica Cup, is regarded as one of the top three horses in training and is expected to participate in the Mouttet Mile.
11 - ABILITY, this year's Derby winner, is being prepared for the Mouttet Mile in a timely manner.
12 - BLUE VINYL is confirmed as a starter for the Mouttet Mile.
13 - I AM FRED will race in the Mouttet Mile if he remains healthy.
14 - PERFECT BREW is progressing toward the main event.
15 - I'VE GOT MAGIC's participation remains uncertain.
16 - MINIATURE MAN is confirmed as a starter.
17 - LURE OF LUCY's participation is unclear.
18 - D HEAD CORNERSTONE is likely to participate.
19 - ESSENTIAL QUALITY is expected to make the cut, but involvement remains uncertain.

Imagine two of our best milers Rani bangala 1 38 3 and desert of Malibu 1 38 2 can't get into a race like this because of some idiotic and foolish condition concerning money earned 😂😂😂 just design a few mile races as condition for entering this race from august the 12 fastest automatically qualify for the race with no horse carrying less than 115 lbs and the most 126 lbs turfits including myself want to see the best horse over one mile not the horse that earns the most racing commission can organize a race for that nature if needs be 😂😂😂 what a joke
That is life. Rules are rules. If change is needed, do it before acceptance.
But those rules were in place from the first diamond mile race and I always said these conditions don't make sense by Chris armond check it out if I am lying the race entrant should be eligible by time trial over the mile distance that's the only fair way the most competitive way
Every year they are presented in about January for scrutiny.
At the start of the year they were made public. Not a soul said anything.
