KINGSTON, Jamaica – The 9 ½ furlong Jamaica Cup showcased another dominant performance by Atomica, the nuclear-powered filly, as described by race commentator Brian Rickman.

Once again, she displayed her supreme class and talent.

The Quick Galloper’s analysis of the 2023 Jamaica Cup is offered below.

FIRST: Atomica – In what was expected to be a clash involving Atomica, her three-year-old nemesis Blue Vinyl, and foreigner Runaway Algo, the race turned out to be an effortless victory for the Horse of the Year. Regular rider Dane Dawkins, drawn on the outside in the field of six in this 9 ½ furlong contest, calmly raced behind the early leaders. Dawkins smoothly picked up the tempo around the five-furlong mark and maintained the lead without breaking a sweat. Atomica secured her fifth consecutive win and is now well-positioned to wear the Horse of the Year crown for a second year in a row.

SECOND: Blue Vinyl – He put forth a valiant effort against his perennial foe Atomica but ultimately could not keep pace when it increased. While he was brushed aside, he remained firmly established as part of top-class company.

THIRD: Miniature Man - This seasoned warrior once again succumbed to two younger rivals but continues to hold his own in races.

FOURTH: Runaway Algo - Entering the 2023 Jamaica Cup as a contender, he led out of the gates at first but gradually fell behind on the backstretch. Ultimately, he finished 19 ¼ lengths behind the winner. The Quick Galloper advises against making too much of this run but suggests it may be wise for Runaway Algo's connections to limit him to a mile.

FIFTH: D HEAD CORNERSTONE – He delivered his usual honest effort, earning him fifth place.

SIXTH: FURTHER AND BEYOND – Barely able to finish, it might be time for his connections to evaluate the future of this former top-class campaigner. Further and Beyond has had an illustrious career and deserves the utmost respect.
