KINGSTON, Jamaica – The 2022 edition of the seven-furlong race concluded with a resounding victory for Mahogany, trained by Ian Parsard.

The Quick Galloper provides an update on the current status of the eight runners from the 2022 Gold Cup, presented in result order.

FIRST – Mahogany: Since his win in the 2022 Gold Cup, Mahogany has only won twice - the Ian Levy Trophy (December 2023) and a race as a six-year-old in 2023. With only three races in 2023 and 79 days since his last competitive effort, Mahogany still remains a top performer.

SECOND – Runaway Algo: This foreign participant has become the top-rated contender. His ascent has been consistent and dominant, outpacing competitors like I Am Fred and Mahogany.

THIRD - I Am Fred: Since the 2022 Gold Cup, I Am Fred has evolved into a major player at the Grade One level. He started 2023 with four consecutive wins and continues to pay dividends for his connections.

FOURTH - Jordon Reign’s: This foreign racer faces challenges and is still finding his footing after a long break. His best form is yet to be seen.

FIFTH - Atomica: The 2022 Gold Cup did not favour this Derby winner. However, Atomica went on to showcase her prowess by setting a record in the Jamaica Cup in November. Following a long layoff, she began her four-year-old season modestly before securing four consecutive wins.

SIXTH – She’s My Destiny: As the leading female older horse in training, She’s My Destiny is currently on a three-race winning streak. Set to compete again on Monday (October 16) in the Gold Cup, she boasts victories over younger male rivals like Runaway Algo and the vastly improved Perfect Brew. Her connections deserve recognition for her career earnings exceeding $10 million.

SEVENTH – Race Car: Hindered by injuries, Race Car has struggled to fulfill the promise demonstrated early in his career.

EIGHTH – She’s A Wonder: Unfortunately, She’s A Wonder has since moved on to greener pastures.
