KINGSTON, Jamaica – The opening event on Saturday, October 7, 2023, features a race for three-year-old non-winners of two local horses and a maiden for three-year-old foreign horses. Eight contenders will participate in this six-furlong contest. The Quick Galloper's analysis is provided below in draw order.
– SLAM DUNK is a bay colt (March 9) by Sensational Slam out of Akela, trained by Colin Ferguson and ridden by Raddesh Roman. Slam Dunk has finished third twice since joining her new barn for non-two races. He is improving and looks set to deliver another strong performance, but not a victorious one.
– WATERMAN JOHN is a bay colt (February 7) by Sensational Slam out of Giacomos Pride, trained by Fitzgerald Richards with Javaniel Patterson aboard. Making his debut in the non-two category after breaking his maiden just 13 days ago, he'll need more time to adapt to this group's rhythm.
– DIGITAL LIGHT is a bay filly (January 14) by Wannabeaplayer out of Morning Grace, trained by Gary Griffiths with Anthony Allen in the saddle. Having competed in this group for some time now, her journey will continue on Saturday.
– FEARLESS SOUL is a chestnut colt (April 9) by Soul Warrior out of Rumble, trained by Philip Feanny with Kerry-Gayl Robinson aboard. Racing with Lasix for the first time, Fearless Soul made an impressive debut over four furlongs and has shown great progress since then. This colt appears exceptional and should be backed in this race.
– BABLA is a chestnut colt (April 9) by Midnight Hawk out of Jennanrosesgirl, trained by David Lee-Sin with Youville Pinnock in the saddle. Joining this level for the first time, Babla could use additional experience.
– SAVVY GIRL is a bay filly (April 9) by Savoy Stomp out of Runallday, trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster aboard. Finishing second in her last race over the same distance on September 16, Savvy Girl is well-suited for this company. Given her experience, she has an excellent chance of winning.
– COOKIE DAY N NIGHT is a chestnut colt (May 18) by Resurgence out of Eloping Emma, trained by Marlon Pusey with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. After shedding his maiden status in just three starts on September 10, Cookie Day N Night has consistently finished behind Fearless Soul—a pattern expected to continue.
– TIGERAMEDAT is a bay colt (USA February 13) by Danish Dynaformer out of Main Asset, trained by Spencer Chung with Everton Stone aboard. Racing without blinkers, this foreigner has yet to find his footing in his new surroundings.
