KINGSTON, Jamaica - The tenth race on Saturday, August 26, 2023, is a three-year-old maiden call with 14 nominated horses running over four furlongs.
Out of the 14 starters, 10 are first-time starters, making it difficult to predict a winner.
Below is the Quick Galloper assessment for readers' scrutiny.
- OH MY is a bay filly (born May 13) by Bold Conquest out of Nina Primera, trained by Ryan Darby with Anthony Allen aboard. There are no indicators from morning clockers that Oh My will be a factor.
– ZAYN’S PRINCESS is a chestnut filly (born March 13) by Soul Warrior out of Sweet Dimension, trained by Michael Beecham with Samantha Fletcher as jockey. One of only four horses in this line-up with race day experience. She finished fifth in her second race and is worthy of respect in this widewide-opentest. A good bet for the exacta and exotic wagers.
– COOKIE DAY N NIGHT is a chestnut colt (born May 18) by Resurgence out of Eloping Emma, trained by Marlon Pusey with Ameth Robles riding. Caught the eye on debut (August 7) when finishing fourth, just two lengths behind the winner at five furlongs straight. Having gained from that pipe opener, Cookie Day N Night is poised for another good effort.
– SHIP AHOY is a chestnut colt (born January 16) by Soul Warrior out of Ship Sam, trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster as jockey. Returns from a 96-day break, having made his debut on May 22. Ship Ahoy must have a say in the final outcome.
- FORREST JOE is a bay colt (born April 30) by Casual Trick out of Gaga Lady, trained by Ryan Darby with Matthew Bennett as jockey. Note that Forrest Joe was listed to race on June 23 but was scratched as a late non-starter due to lameness. He needs more time to find himself.
- DIMETRY P is a bay colt (born March 15) by Savoy Stomp out of Full Force, trained by Colin Ferguson with Marshall Porter aboard. Indications from morning observers suggest that this bay colt is progressing well and will be prominent in his future races.
– LAMBO GIRL is a chestnut filly (born April 12) by Admiral Alex out of Absolute Justice, trained by Wilfred Chin with Shamaree Muir as jockey. By far, the most experienced in this line-up with 17 starts. However, Lambo Girl has only hit the board once out of those 17 starts, and that trend is expected to continue on Saturday.
- PRINCESS RIA is a chestnut filly (born March 8) by War Marshall out of Aria, trained by Ryan Darby with Paul Francis as jockey. Track reports suggest that Princess Ria has some ability, with early speed as her main asset. Only time will tell.
- SELENA TREASURE is a chestnut filly (born April 11) by Sunshine N Shadow out of Selena, trained by Omar Williams with Jawara Steadman as jockey. She is progressing well and can play a role in the exotic wagers.
- SHADOW OF A DOUBT is a grey colt (born April 15) by Speith out of Michelka, trained by Oneil Markland with Oneil Mullings as jockey. He has caught the eye during exercise, with many clockers believing that Shadow Of A Doubt has the ability to start his racing career with a victory.
- PAPA GRAY is a grey colt (born April 26) by Smokin Man out of Orchist, trained by Andrew McDonald with Bebeto Harvey as jockey. He is still learning his trade.
- ERTUGRUL is a bay colt (born January 15) by Nasheet out of She’s A Gem, trained by Steven Todd with Omar Walker as jockey. This bay colt has been progressing well in the mornings, and many close watchers believe he will finish in the top five.
- BADDA DAN COVID is a chestnut filly by Legal Process out of Precocious Value, trained by Ryan Darby with Jemar Jackson as jockey. This will be a learning experience for Badda Dan Covid.
- FEARLESS SOUL is a chestnut colt (born April 9) by Soul Warrior out of Rumble, trained by Philip Feanny with Kerry-Gayl Robinson as jockey. He is the half-brother to Further And Beyond and is making a belated entry into competitive racing, , and the mere fact that he is drawn widest of all must be given consideration.
