KINGSTON, Jamaica – The eighth race on the Overnight program for Saturday, August 19, 2023, features locally bred three and four-year-olds who have not yet won four races, as well as foreign-bred three-year-olds and older who have not won three races.

The race distance is 7 ½ furlongs. All six entries in the race were bred on local stud farms.

Keep in mind that this analysis by The Quick Galloper is based on the Overnight program, which is subject to change.

1 – BURLAP is a three-year-old bay colt by Casual Trick out of Fedora, trained by Richard Azan and ridden by Javaniel Patterson. He has shown steady progress with a recent win but faces challenging competition. Burlap's unpredictable nature means he must be at his best to have even a slight chance of victory.

2 – THE CITADEL is a four-year-old chestnut gelding by Key To Power out of Wings of Faith. Peter-John Parsard trains him, with Omar Walker (number two paper) as the jockey. Despite his experience, The Citadel has often fallen short of expectations. He appears to be more of a filler in this line-up.

3 – ROULETTE BOSS is a three-year-old gelding by Hedge Fund out of My Heartbeat. Carlton Cunningham trains the horse, and Paul Francis will ride him. Last raced on April 9 in the seven-furlong Prince Consort Stakes, Roulette Boss has won over 7 ½ furlongs before. Now rested and refreshed, he looks ready for a third victory.

4 – HUNTSMAN is a three-year-old chestnut colt by Key To Power out of Dream Point, trained by Ian Parsard with Omar Walker aboard with a number one paper. Coming off an underwhelming performance in the 12-furlong Jamaica Derby just 12 days ago, Huntsman aims for redemption. With his established speed and his ability to race close to the early pace, Huntsman from a smart ride will be hard to beat, thereby securing a third win.

5 – DUROCELL is a three-year-old chestnut filly by Soul Warrior out of Savanna Smile. Patrick Fong trains her, with Samantha Fletcher in the saddle. Realistically, her chances of success seem slim.

6 – AWESOME ANTHONY is a three-year-old chestnut colt by Soul Warrior out of Antoinette, trained by Patrick Taylor and ridden by Raddesh Roman. His 12-race career has been challenging to assess due to recurring issues, but his early speed is noteworthy. However, the 7 ½ furlong race length might be slightly too long for him to be fully effective.
