KINGSTON, Jamaica – The oddsmakers at this website have been left in a quandary, after Thalita beat the colts and fellow fillies in the 10-furlong Jamaica St Leger on Saturday, July 1, 2023.
The indifferent performances by 1-5 favourite, Mojito, and the highly thought of Huntsman, have now blown wide open the doors of the 12-furlong Jamaica Derby scheduled for the first week in August.
The Derby doors got even wider after Money Miser finished second, Princess Sharon (third), and Rhythm Buzz (fourth).
The oddsmakers having assessed the situation have made the following conclusions.
1 – The oddsmakers are discounting the terrible performance of Mojito, even with the hue and cry currently circulating about the quality of the ride in the St Leger. If Mojito is in good health, with no health issues, then given his back class, he can rebound. 2 – The oddsmakers took into full consideration the performance of St Leger winner, Thalita. It is obvious that this outstanding filly did well around the two turns of the St Leger. 3 – Money Miser produced a noticeable effort in the St Leger, to finish second behind Thalita, albeit by six lengths. Money Miser came from well behind showing, again, he enjoys going long, making the 12 furlongs of the Derby right up his street. Money Miser looked green in his St Leger run, as that was his fourth career start, compared with 10 for Thalita, and nine for Mamma Mia. This possibly gives Money Miser, a bit more room for improvement.
4 – Huntsman came into the St Leger with a lot of expectations on his back. He failed to deliver.
