KINGSTON, Jamaica – The first on the St Leger race day of Saturday, July 1, 2023, is a three-year-old maiden call at 5 ½ furlongs for fillies only.

The Quick Galloper’s take on the nine horses nominated in this sprint is given below.

– JUBBIE WAP WAP is a grey filly (April 19) by Speith out of Wap, trained by Michael Thomas with Marshall Porter in the saddle. Note, Jubbie Wap Wap races with the tongue tie on, and the figure eight off. All of her four starts to date have been underwhelming. That trend will continue on Saturday.

– VELIKI VICKI is a roan filly (February 19) by Bold Conquest out of Sweetyourock, trained by Rowan Mathie with Paul Francis aboard. Has slowly been finding her way. Veliki Vicki will benefit from a reduction in the trip, and given that she now faces a moderate field, a first win is in the making.

– GLITTERING MAGNUM is a bay filly (May 18) by Deputy Glitters out of Runaway Queen, trained by Lorne Kirlew with Anthony Allen in the saddle. Note, Glittering Magnum races with the tongue tie off, the figure 8 on, and first-time Lasix. Did not show much on her debut 28 days ago. Now racing with first-time Lasix a better effort is expected.

– THE LOVE OF GOD is a chestnut filly (February 22) by Lion Tamer out of The Principal, trained by Lawrence Freemantle with Javaniel Patterson aboard. The Love of God has been consistent in recent times. Will have to add a bit more to find success on Saturday.

– LAMBO GIRL is a chestnut filly (April 12) by Admiral Alex out of Absolute Justice, trained by Wilfred Chin with Jordan Barrett in the saddle. This filly has raced 16 times with nothing much to show for her efforts. Lambo Girl has the tendency of being early on the headlines and then fading out in the latter stages. Cannot be back with any confidence.

– HOT STEPPER is a chestnut filly (March 13) by Hedge Fund out of Crème De La, trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster aboard. Note, Hot Stepper races with the blinkers on. This filly has finished second on two occasions, and third – five times in nine visits to the starting gates. This consistency will be of use for Hot Stepper as she seeks to win for the first time. The only matter for consideration is whether the distance is a tad short.

– XYLOPHONIC STEEL is a bay filly (March 24) by Bern Identity out of Kiri, trained by Khary Tucker with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. Note, Xylophonic Steel races with the blinkers on. Despite being heavily backed when he last raced, seven days ago, Xylophonic Steel finished way down the track. Even with the blinkers added to his equipment, Xylophonic Steel will have to show vast improvement to beat these.

– ANSWERS MY PRAYERS is a bay filly (May 24) by Casual Trick out of Great Faith, trained by Gary Subratie with Raddesh Roman aboard. This filly has been in and out in her recent efforts. Will do her best work in the final part of this contest, and cannot be denied an outsider’s chance of winning.

– PRINCESS AKILAH is a bay filly (February 19) by Nasheet out of Princess Lorna, trained by Anthony Nunes with Matthew Bennett in the saddle. Has not been able to do anything in her two starts to date.
