KINGSTON, Jamaica  - On Saturday, June 24, 2023, trainer Jason DaCosta saddled three winners.

The first of that triple was Tekapunt, ridden by Reyan Lewis, was DaCosta’s 200th winner.

DaCosta, with over 400 winners in the United States, started to officially train in Jamaica in March of 2021, following the untimely passing of his father, 18-time champion Wayne.

He quickly saddled his first winner in April of 2021, Elitist, owned by his mom Elizabeth.

In 2021, he achieved his first Classic race success when Miniature Man won the 2000 Guineas.

Close to the end of 2021, DaCosta, despite his late start to the season, was engaged in an absorbing battle with then-champion trainer Anthony Nunes. Nunes was able to repel the DaCosta challenge, but the foundation was set.

In 2022, Jason DaCosta in his first full year as a local conditioner won the champion trainer title without any fuss.

At midway through the current year, DaCosta is on course for a second championship, leading his nearest rival by over $20 million.

After securing his 200th winner, DaCosta was quick to attribute his success to his team members at the stables.

“It is quite pleasing to reach this landmark. I had a great platform, set by my father to build on, and thanks to the overwhelming support of those at the stables, every single person, who gave me their support, their understanding, and who put in the hard work necessary for the success of the barn.

“A special word of gratitude to the owners who stayed with the DaCosta stables, during a difficult time for my family and myself.

“In addition, my appreciation to the new owners who have joined the stables.

“So, yes, I am happy to reach the landmark of 200 winners, but the quest for more winners continues, at the DaCosta stables.
