KINGSTON, Jamaica - Zion’s Princess, neglected at odds of 40-1, defeated rivals to win a native-bred four-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of two) and imported four-year-olds and upwards (maiden) going 6 furlongs (1,200m).

Zion’s Princess wasn’t the best of the runners to leave the starting gates in good order and was held by jockey Anthony Allen among the backmarkers, watching as Dream of Paris (Paul Francis), King Air (Aaron Chatrie), and Minidewak (Javaniel Patterson) set the early pace.

But the Michael Beecham-owned and -trained Zion Princess began to round horses navigating the half-mile turn, looking dangerous coming off the final turn behind Dream of Paris and King Air. Zion’s Princess then pushed further forward deep stretch and drew away from the field to win by 3 lengths at the wire.

Dream of Paris held on to second place ahead of Givemethelight (Youville Pinnock) in third place. The final time for the race was recorded at 1:16.2 (23.0 x 47.3).
