Special Notes On The 2023 – Jamaica 1000 Guineas

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Quick Galloper has gone through the 12 starters, jockeys, and trainers in the 2023 – Jamaica 1000 Guineas, and has compiled some special notes for the benefit of readers.

The Jamaica 1000 is run over a mile for three-year-old fillies and will be contested on Saturday, June 3, 2023.

1 – There are 12 starters in the 2023 Jamaica 1000 Guineas. Of those 12 starters, six are trained by champion Jason DaCosta. Gahly Gahly Links, Mamma Mia, Brown Skin Girl, Wayne’s Princess, She’s My Hedgefund and Thalita.

2 – Three-time champion trainer Anthony Nunes for the first time in many moons, does not have a starter in the 1000 Guineas.

3 – Bella Bella is the only filly in the 2023 Jamaica 1000 Guineas that is an imported bred in utero.

4 – Of the seven trainers with horses in the 1000 Guineas, only one, Gary Subratie, has already won this Classic event.

5 – Of the 12 jockeys listed to ride in the 1000 Guineas, three, Reyan Lewis, Omar Walker, and Dane Dawkins have had previous success in this Classic event.

6 – Three horses in the 1000 Guineas have won three races prior. The three are Mamma Mia, Bootylicious, and Thalita. The other nine entrants have all won one race each. There is an interesting situation with horse number 7, Natural Dancer, whose only victory to date was achieved by the disqualification of the winner.

7 – The horse with the most starts in the 1000 Guineas is number 9, Acknowledgeme, with 15.

8 – Five horses in the 1000 Guineas have earned over $1 million. They are Thalita, Acknowledgeme, All For Love, Mamma Mia, and Bootylicious. The top overall earner is Mamma Mia, with $5,269, 050, from seven starts (three wins, three second-place finishes, and a third).
