KINGSTON, Jamaica - BLUE Vinyl continued to show rapid improvement as a four-year-old after the chestnut colt romped to his second-consecutive victory in the $1.14-million Jamaica Veterinary Board World Vet Day Trophy at Caymanas Park on Saturday, April 29, 2023.
Blue Vinyl, who raced behind the pace for most of the way, surrounded horses approaching the turn for the home bend and sprinted clear to win the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upwards horses over one mile (1,600m) by 12½ lengths, in a decent time of 1:38.2 (24.0 x 46.3 x 1:11.0).
“It was a very good performance from Blue Vinyl to win. I mean, when you have a horse like this and he bounces back like this, you have to feel good about it,” trainer Patrick Lynch said.
“As a three-year-old the campaign was tough, so you have to look for him to come off his peak and so you have just to relax him and take it up again,” Lynch added.
Ridden by Javaniel Patterson, Blue Vinyl started in the middle of the pack as Omron (Richard Henry) led the field ahead of I Realise (Anthony Thomas), Outbidder (Reyan Lewis), and Marquesas (Roger Hewitt) down the backstretch.
I Realise surged to the front as the half-mile (800m) turn approached, with Blue Vinyl rapidly challenging him on the inside. Blue Vinyl got closer to I Realise as he approached the distance, before turning on the pressure in deep stretch to earn his second win in as many starts this season. Perfect Brew (Omar Walker) came in second, followed by I Realise in third.
“This horse [Blue Vinyl] is a super horse for me. I didn’t have to ask him to do much at the half mile; I just teased him a bit and told him he had to get into the race now, and he responded.
“A furlong and a half out I asked him to really run, but no one was coming so I didn’t have to kill him. It was just smooth sailing to the wire in deep stretch. Right now he is super fit and he is going to cause a lot of problems down the line,” Patterson said.
