KINGSTON, Jamaica - The three-year-old and upwards Grade 1, Lady Geeta Trophy is one of the major attractions on the race day of Saturday, May 6, 2023.
The Lady Geeta has attracted seven starters going six furlongs.
The Quick Galloper’s assessment is provided below for readers done in post-position order.
1 – SWEET MAJESTY has done well to conquer Overnight Allowance. Now, the Edward Stanberry trainee tries her hoofs in the higher grade after two unsuccessful efforts. Sweet Majesty is a tough competitor, who will benefit from just being among these.
2 – EMPEROROFTHECATS falls in the same boat as Sweet Majesty. Progressing well, and simply needs more time to handle this cohort.
3 – SHE’S MY DESTINY is the most accomplished of this lot. She was not far behind I’m Fred and Runaway Algo (6 ½ furlongs) on April 8, 2023. Then there is the question of weight. As the accomplished one in the line-up, She’s My Destiny is allowing significant weight to the other six runners. Despite this disadvantage, She’s My Destiny is still the one to beat as the distance is right, and she has developed the good habit of not having to lead. She’s My Destiny can stay behind the leader (s) and then pounce whenever called on.
4 – MADELYN’S SUNSHINE is the true speed in this trophy contest. Her 11-race career has been hampered by injury issues, with hot and cold performances the order of the day. When she is right, Madelyn’s Sunshine will set the fractions with the always-present fear of shutting off in the final furlong. On Saturday, Madelyn’s Sunshine will be the leader, then who knows what will happen next?
5 – UNRULY BOSS after winning in Overnight (March 19), then was picked apart by when going up in grade. He will have a hard time dealing with She’s My Destiny but holds an in-front finish over Madelyn’s Sunshine.
6 – KING ARTHUR was the winner of the Lady Geeta in 2022. The former Derby winner was among the leaders on April 22 in the one mile The Viceroy before backing out. King Arthur is mercurial and can deliver when he chooses to do so.
7 - PRESS CONFERENCE enters the higher class for the first occasion. The learning curve continues for Press Conference.
