KINGSTON, Jamaica - Five-year-old bay horse Kwaku, trained by veteran Owen Sharpe, made light work of rivals in a five-year-old and upwards (non-winners of two) and five-year-old and upwards (maidens) going 7 furlongs (1,400m).
Ridden by Jerome Innis, Kwaku (Casual Trick out of Darlin by Distorted) broke off well at the start to chase Beautiful Bran (Andree Powell) down the backstretch. Kwaku maintained his gallop well until going into the half-mile (800m) when he hit the front full of running.
Kwaku then began to open up on rivals and once he straightened up in the lane, the bay horse accelerated and powered home to score by 19 ½ lengths, his second consecutive win from as many start. Beautiful Bran finished second and Magic Bullet (Roger Hewitt) came home in third place.
After splits of 25.0 x 50.2 x 1:16.1, the final time was recorded at 1:31.0.
