KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jockey Reyan Lewis has assumed the lead in this year’s championship race.
On the Ash Wednesday (February 22, 2023) card, Lewis had success atop the Philip Feanny-trained Babylike and Mamma Mia conditioned by Jason DaCosta, to move to 13 wins this season from 41 mounts, one more than a long-time leader Tevin Foster with 12 wins from 67 rides. Foster was winless on Ash Wednesday.
Fitting into the third slot is Robert Halledeen, who has made a significant mark since his return to Caymanas Park from his riding duties in North America. Halledeen has had 10 successes thus far in 2023 from 44 rides.
Defending champion Dane Dawkins has had a relatively docile start to the season with six wins in his bank from 47 starts for position number six. One in front of Dawkins is his nemesis of last year, former champion Anthony Thomas with seven victories from 37 mounts.
One significant newcomer even at the stage of the year on the top ten list is apprentice Shavon Townsend. The young man in 2023, has ridden four winners from 30 mounts.
