RACE SIX – Joe after 13 starts repaid his connections led by trainer Michael Marlowe with a hard-fought win going six furlongs. Accomplished jockey Linton Steadman, who has been having a lean spell in the saddle this season with only seven winners from a measly 57 rides, guided Joe home. Steadman has not been getting the rides despite gaining acclaim as a winner of Classic and other major races. One issues, sometimes, is the weight factor, while he seems to have lost favour especially with the major barns.
RACE SEVEN – With the blinkers off, and with the visor and tongue tie on, Sonny T And Chippy, a half-brother to the highly decorated Calculus, returned after a break of 77 days, to score going the two turns of nine furlongs and 25 yards. This was the second win from six starts for Sonny T And Chippy.
RACE EIGHT – The day’s relative safety of favourites or near favourites winning was shattered with the success of the Gary Subratie conditioned Alexa’s Secret at odds of 15-1. The winning jockey was Raddesh Roman. He is having a difficult of late getting rides much less winners.
RACE NINE – Brinks completed his three-year-old conditions with aplomb. He has now reached the Overnight Allowance grade.
RACE TEN – The victory by Mahogany in the Gold Cup is dealt with separately.
