KINGSTON, Jamaica – Since the running of the 48th Gold Cup on Saturday, October 22, 2022, ay Caymanas Park, social media has been inundated with comments on the event, especially the performance of three-year-old filly, Atomica.
QUICKGALLOP.COM shares with its readers one of the many comments posted on the Facebook page – PUNTERS AT THE PARADE RING.
Good day to all.
I have been reading many of the comments made about Atomica. Persons have their likes and dislikes and everyone is entitled to his or her opinion and that is healthy for conversation.
I would like to make a statement of assessment about the subject.
In Atomica's debut she was 4th at the 1/2 mile and won.
In the Thornbird Stakes, she was 4th at the 1/2 mile and won.
In her previous outing, she won a 6-furlong race in 1:10:4 setting splits of 22:2, 33:4, and 45:3 seconds.
Her last race, the Gold Cup), she finished in a time of 1:27:4 for 7 furlongs where the splits were set of 23:2, 46:4, 1:11:4.
Her performance yesterday is not a true reflection of her abilities. She has also won races that she didn't lead though they were not off the pace). She had a bad day yesterday no doubt and I don't think that the blame should be cast at any individual. This is racing and things do happen, game plans change when the gates are opened, and accidents, interference and mishaps do occur.
The connections just have to accept the result and wheel and come again. Hopefully she didn't sustain any injuries coming out of the race and she will be able to race again in the future and get a chance to prove herself at this level.
I think she is a terrific race horse and an outstanding filly. She has displayed a strong character and has shown potential of being one of the best. She is still young, so give her the chance to show what she can do as she matures.
All the comments are good comments and informative as well.
Thanks for allowing me the platform to also express myself.
All the best to all the punters.
