KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Kilowatt Cup, which honours the former three-time winner of the Gold Cup, pits together the second tier of the 2022 – three-year-old cohort.
Seven horses are entered in this seven-furlong contest for three-year-olds (non-winners of four) for locally bred horses, and for imported three- and four-year-olds (non-winners of three, on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Caymanas Park.
THE QUICK GALLOPER’S assessment is provided below.
1 – D HEAD CORNERSTONE is a bay colt (March 23) by Bern Identity out of Soul of the Heart trained by Gary Subratie with Reyan Lewis aboard. D Head Cornerstone has visited every party in recent times, and has done so with some amount of distinction. This colt falls within the non-winners of two category and is therefore racing out of his leaving. He is going to hit the board.
2 – REAL BOSS is a US–bred chestnut filly (March 26) by Tonalist out of Hisse trained by Spencer Chung with Omar Walker in the saddle. Truth be told, Real Boss has no realistic chance of winning.
3 – TEKAPUNT is a bay gelding (February 25) by Northern Giant out of Just A Flutter trained by Jason DaCosta with Anthony Thomas in the saddle. Returned after a long injury break with an impressive run, finishing second by a length behind stablemate Silent Mission. Tekapunt gives the impression that he is more of a run-on sprinter, making seven furlongs to his liking. Like D Head Cornerstone, Tekapunt is a non-three racing in the class above.
4 – SILENT MISSION is a bay filly (May 1) by Savoy Stomp out of Lady Mandi trained by Jason DaCosta with Robert Halledeen in the saddle. Silent Mission has made significant progress in recent times, winning her last two races, both six furlongs contests. The increase of the distance from six to seven furlongs will not hinder the chances of this bay filly. Plus, Silent Mission is one of two in this trophy offering racing as a non-four in a non-four event.
5 – EL CID is a chestnut gelding (April 21) by Soul Warrior out of Wap trained by Roy Matthews with Dick Cardenas aboard. Can easily be discarded.
6 – PELICULA is a bay filly (April 19) by Soul Warrior out of Milestone trained by Richard Azan with Jordan Barrett aboard. Cannot manage these.
7 – BRINKS is a bay gelding (February 19) by Bern Identity out of Indian Bluff trained by Ian Parsard with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. Like Silent Mission, Brinks is a non-three racing in the approved grade. Although winning only one event in 2022, Brinks has distinguished himself with gallant efforts in the major Classic races. Brinks is above these and will win without a murmur.
THE WAGER – an exacta with Brinks on top of Silent Mission and Tekapunt.
