KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Menudo Trophy, an Open Allowance | Graded Stakes event scheduled for Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Caymanas Park, provides the rare opportunity for the top horses in training to stretch their legs travelling the two turns of 10 furlongs.
Six horses are entered, with THE QUICK GALLOPER’s take on the starters provided below for the scrutiny of readers on QUICKGALLOP.COM.
Of the six starters, Eagle One, Big Big Daddy, and old-stager Hover Craft can be eliminated from serious consideration.
The trio to decide this trophy contest are I Am Fred, Big Jule, and Calculus.
I Am Fred is seeking to win two in a row, after a tough, yet decisive success at six furlongs when he defeated the horse rated the highest, Mahogany. This foreigner has already won at two turns (nine furlongs and 25 yards) but seems to be better going shorter distances. Yet, given his form at the moment, plus his known ability, I Am Fred can get the job done.
Big Jule faces his toughest set of rivals in his nine-race career. This imported in-utero gelding is a lover of two-turns, which gives him an outstanding chance of winning, yet it has to be taken into consideration that Big Jule enters this grade for the first time.
Calculus is the one to beat in this trophy race. He performs his best-going two-turns, he gets the distance hands down, and despite giving away the weight, he has beaten better than these before in his illustrious career.
