KINGSTON, Jamaica – After his fourth-place finish in the Jamaica Derby, albeit way behind the first three, the Gary Subratie trained D Head Cornerstone returned to three-year-old non-winners of two to add a second tick in the win column from eight starts.
Competing at a mile with Anthony Thomas holding the reins, D Head Cornerstone, a bay colt by Bern Identity out of Soul of the Heart, was kept off the early hustling, as Power of Faith (Oshane Nugent) set the splits. After five furlongs were completed, Unruly Dude (Dane Dawkins) took control, as D Head Cornerstone got closer while moving along the inside rails.
Unruly Dude entered the final two furlongs with a clear advantage as D Head Cornerstone started to gain rapidly. With a furlong left in the contest, D Head Cornerstone reeled in Unruly Duke, and then went on to win by 4 ¾ lengths.
Real Boss (Reyan Lewis) finished third.
