KINGSTON, Jamaica – The imported in utero four-year-old bay colt Big Jule confirmed his distinct likeness for the two turns of nine furlongs and 25 yards, with an inspiring performance in race nine on the Saturday card of July 16, 2022, at Caymanas Park.
In achieving his fifth win from eight career starts, this time in the Overnight Allowance grade, Big Jule conditioned by Ian Parsard, also recorded his third victory going nine furlongs and 25 yards.
Jockey Dane Dawkins got Big Jule quickly out of his starting barrier and by the time the horses reached the first turn, the pair had already assumed the lead with Bern Identity (Tevin Foster) and Uncle Frank (Aaron Chatrie) following.
Down the backstretch, Big Jule was comfortable on the front end, with Awesome Treasure (Reyan Lewis) coming alongside to challenge. A patient Dawkins was not ruffled by the presence of Awesome Treasure, methodically dismissing the challenge to enter the straight for the final two furlongs with a significant advantage. That advantage was increased despite the absence of any rivals.
Best Daughter Ever (Dick Cardenas) came from way off to finish second with old stager Ras Emanuel (Linton Steadman) third.
The final time of 1:58.2 was not suggestive of the dominant performance of Big Jule but it must be taken into consideration that the track was recently resurfaced with all times since being slower than usual.
