KINGSTON, Jamaica – Returning after a long break Runway Icon (175 days) shed the maiden tag in the Caymanas Saturday (July 16) tenth. The event was a three-year-old maiden call (fillies only) going seven furlongs.
With champion jockey Anthony Thomas holding the reins for trainer Howard Jaghai, Runway Icon was smoothly out with her rider choosing to race just off the pace set by Blue Sky (Daniel Thompson). Also racing close behind was Wowtastic (Reyan Lewis).
Leaving the four-furlong marker, Thomas pushed through Runway Icon with Wowtastic emerging as the only challenger.
In the straight, Runway Icon, despite her long absence, had enough to hold a consistent gallop; going on to win by 2 ¼ lengths. Wowtastic finished second with Noa Li (Odeen Edwards) coming from way off for third.
Trainer Jaghai was saddling his second winning horse this year from 15 starts, while Thomas was winning his second on the day.
