KINGSTON, Jamaica – Apprentice Jawani Forbes, who from his graduation over two years ago, has had a turbulent career, had a smile on his face after registering his first career win atop the Colin Ferguson trained Hunter’s Ridge.
That first and long-awaited win by Forbes was achieved in the Caymanas Saturday (July 16) sixth, which was a five-year-old and upwards maiden event coming down the five straight course.
When the gates opened, Hunter’s Ridge was not the best away with Forbes moving from the inside to the middle of the middle of the track, still behind the leading pack of Run Jaya Run (Odeen Edwards) and Plutologist (Dane Dawkins).
Crossing over to the main track, Forbes got Hunter’s Ridge going, pulling away from the field to win easily by 4 ¾ lengths. Jr Jones (Roger Hewitt) a 99-1 chance finishing second and Run Jaya Run third.
