KINGSTON, Jamaica - FOUR-YEAR-OLD, American-bred bay filly Lure of Lucy continued her trek through the classes following an impressive win in the $1.1-m Midnight Angel Trophy at the Overnight Allowance level going six furlongs (1,200m).
Trained by Jason DaCosta, Lure of Lucy (Uncle Lino – Ring of Faith) was winning for the first time this season from five attempts and five overall from 14 starts. Lure of Lucy has earned over $3.8 million in stakes.
Anthony Thomas, in the saddle for the second-consecutive run, broke Lure of Lucy on top at the start and held the lead ahead of Generational (Shane Richardson), The Good Witch (Dick Cardenas) and Rojorn di Pilot (Reyan Lewis).
Lure of Lucy continued to gallop well going into the half-mile turn ahead of the chasing trio of Generational, The Good Witch, and Rojorn di Pilot. Lure of Lucy came off the final turn with both The Good Witch, and Rojorn di Pilot breathing down her neck.
Thomas got the far-striding filly to increase her tempo and Lure of Lucy found extra and edged away for a convincing win, 2¾ lengths clear of the pack in a time of 1:12.2 — her best time done over this distance and bettering the 1:12.3 done back in September of last year.
Rojorn di Pilot was second and The Good Witch third.
“I am pleased with the win by Lure of Lucy. This filly has her problems and has to be gingerly conditioned for her race. She has done well thus far especially given her issues. Now the expectation is that Lure of Lucy will continue to progress, and I expect her to be competitive in her new grouping,” trainer DaCosta said.
