3-YEAR-OLDS: DIFFICULT 9 ½ FURLONGS | ANY NUMBER CAN PLAY

Manaco
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The eighth race on Saturday, July 9, 2022, pits eight three-year-old maidens against each other at the unusual distance of nine and a half furlongs.
THE QUICK GALLOPER assesses the eight starters in draw order.
1 – Miss Caleesi is a grey filly (April 14) by Midnight Hawk out of Auntie Rhoda trained by Delroy Wisdom with Samantha Fletcher in the saddle. This experienced filly has no logical chance of winning.
2 – Manaco is a chestnut colt (April 9) by Lion Tamer out of The Golden One trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster in the saddle. This lightly raced colt has shown improvement on each of the three occasions he has faced the starter. Weakened on last (June 22) at a mile, making the extra real estate potentially problematic. Champion trainer Anthony Nunes has three starters in this contest with the stable jockey Tevin Foster choosing to ride Manaco.
3 – El Cid is a chestnut gelding (April 21) by Soul Warrior out of Wap trained by Anthony Nunes with Shane Ellis in the saddle. Has been around for a while now with his form not in question after finishing third (6 ½ furlongs) on June 19. El Cid’s exercise efforts have been good and is expected to be part of the finish in this one.
4 – Monsieur Blue is a bay gelding (April 23) by Tourist out of La Hague trained by Gresford Smith with  Andre Powell in the saddle. In his three starts, Monsieur Blue has consistently improved. On June 18, Monsieur Blue finished a close second behind D Head Cornerstone, with the latter going on to place fourth in the St Leger. Monsieur Blue has the perfect opportunity of getting off the mark.
5 – Sonny T And Chippy is a bay colt (May 27) by Savoy Stomp out of Trinket Box trained by Spencer Chung with Dick Cardenas in the saddle. Gives a distinct impression that he will be comfortable going long. Sonny T And Chippy who has been sparingly raced, and has developed a gate issue, will be suited to the distance. Note, Sonny T And Chippy races with the visor off and the blinkers on.
6 – Asurety is a chestnut gelding (March 9) by Perfect Curlin out of Sure To Cure trained by Edward Stanberry with Calvin Bailey in the saddle. Difficult to see Asurety even hitting the board. Note, Asurety races with the blinkers off and the tongue tie on.
7 – Joe is a chestnut colt (April 21) by Legal Process out of Lady Jameela trained by Michael Marlowe with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. Improving and needs time. Note, Joe races with the visor off and the blinkers on.
8 – Howilookin is a bay colt (February 12) by Western Classic out of Gold Charm trained by Anthony Nunes with Linton Steadman in the saddle. The distance is going to prove difficult for this colt.
