KINGSTON, Jamaica – THE QUICK GALLOPER assesses the three – three-year-old races contested on Saturday, June 25, 2022.
The first of these three-year-old encounters was the fifth – a non-two for locals and a maiden for foreigners. It was the US-bred Gilbert racing for the eighth occasion who earned a long overdue victory. The Philip Feanny trainee won in a driving finish, beating Perfect Brew by the narrowest of margins in a time of 59.2 seconds.
For Perfect Brew, regarded as one of the better two-year-olds of last year, it was his fifth racing attempt this season without finding the winning post in front. There is sure to be a concern in the camp of Perfect Brew’s connections as he has not progressed as a three-year-old. Perfect Brew based on his performances to date is seemingly developing into more of a sprinter with seven-furlong being the maximum for him to be effective. Let’s wait and see.
The next three-year-old race was the seventh, a maiden condition call at five-furlongs round. Racegoers were paying attention by the entry of first-timer Noble Impulse trained by champion Anthony Nunes. Apart from an early appearance close to the leaders, Noble Impulse was not a factor, yet, he ran encouragingly to deserve attention the next time he faces the starter. The winner Sugar Daddy (Raddesh Roman) trained by Patrick Lynch ended the distance in a fair clocking of 1:00.3. Sugar Daddy will compete and win in non-winners of two, with time.
The final race for the three-year-olds was division two of the first – a non-two for locals and a maiden for foreigners. It took the winner Awesome Rich, six months after first attaining success on January 1, 2022. It was a commanding win in a time of 58.3 seconds with fast splits of 22.3 x 45.1. Of note is that Awesome Rich’s two wins have been achieved at the distance of five furlongs, the first five furlongs straight and the second on the round course. For winning rider Jemar Jackson it was this year from 13 attempts.
