KINGSTON, Jamaica – Champion two-year-old of 2021, Golden Wattle gets her last chance to get it right before the 1000 Guineas Classic, which will be run over a mile in two weeks.
Golden Wattle trained by champion Anthony Nunes with her regular partner Tevin Foster holding the reins is entered with five others in a three-year-old and upwards (non-four) for local horses and a three-year-old and upwards (non-three) for imported horses going 6 ½ furlongs.
THE QUICK GALLOPER assesses the six entered in their draw order.
1 – BERNING RED (Bern Identity out of Feasibility Study) – Dropped down to $1 million claiming on April 9 and won, and was not claimed. Back among his peers, Berning Red will find it difficult.
2 – HEART OF THE SEA (Berlino Di Tiger out of Sea Traveller) – Heart of the Sea is way out of her league. Note, Heart of the Sea races with the figure 8 on.
3 – LUKSOL ( USA Tapiture out of Stunning Taste) – Has been slowly finding her hoofs on the local track. Luksol gave evidence especially in her early races of being a sprinter, but in her last two efforts showed that she can sit close and run on in the straight. This importee is coming to come and will play a part in the outcome.
4 – GOLDEN WATTLE (Lion Tamer – Golden Glory) – This filly seems hard to train always being ponied when at exercise. This situation has not allowed her trainer to zero in on a decided training regime. Last year, trainer Nunes to combat the issues with Golden Wattle, raced the filly over six furlongs, nine days before the one-mile Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, and Golden Wattle obliged by winning both races. Now, Nunes is trying same, making this race a defining one for Golden Wattle.5 – MADELYN’S SUNSHINE (USA Joe’s Son Joey – Madelyn’s Finest) – Got off to a flying start when making her debut on April 9. Madelyn’s Sunshine appears to be one with above average class and potential, and with all things being equal should prosper for two from two.
6 – MORSE CODE (Berlino’s Di Tiger – Code Star) – Out of place and out of class.
