KINGSTON, Jamaica – THE QUICK GALLOPER continues to pay attention to the three-year-olds in all the classes.
The first event on Saturday (April 16, 2022), is a three-year-old Maiden Condition event over nine furlongs and 25 yards.
What is significant about this race is the distance, as this is the first occasion that the three-year-olds will race around two turns.
There are ten starters, and Ooh So Long, GT Boy, King Ric, Legal Bomb, Lady Joyce, and Sir Tajay can safely be discarded as all six are still learning their trade.
This leaves El Cid, Asurety, Secret Emperor, and Prince Sanjay.
El Cid, a chestnut gelding by Soul Warrior out of Wap has raced four times, finishing second by short margins in his last two outings. He has run over a mile before and gave his best effort in the closing furlong. This gives the indication that El Cid will thrive at nine furlongs and 25 yards. Of note, El Cid races with the visor on and the cheekpieces off.
Asurety, a chestnut gelding by Perfect Curlin out of Sure To Cure, looked at home going a mile 14 days ago when beaten by Salute The Deputy and El Cid. The handicaps are about the same between El Cid and Asurety, thereby giving El Cid a slight advantage.
Secret Emperor, a bay gelding by Emperor Hall out of Secret Cat hails from the in-form stables of owner, trainer, and breeder Carl “The Cat Man” Anderson. First time out Secret Emperor finished fourth at 7 ½ furlongs, and then fifth about four lengths behind second-placed El Cid at a mile. The distance should not be an issue for Secret Emperor. Watch this one closely.
The final entrant with a realistic chance of winning this maiden encounter is Prince Sanjay, a chestnut colt by Emperor Hall out of Dalla Fifty. Prince Sanjay is among the more experienced of the lot with six starts but although consistent in his efforts thus far, he has never raced longer than 6 ½ furlongs.
