To pay $5,000 for incident
KINGSTON, Jamaica – There was much chatter among punters at the race track after the running of the sixth race on Saturday, March 26, 2022.
The event over 3 ½ furlongs was won by horse number one, Chief of State ridden by Ruja Lahoe and trained by Shaun Williams.
After winning Lahoe stayed in the saddle and guided Chief of State to the winners’ enclosure.
A few minutes went by and then the official announcement: “Jockey Ruja Lahoe has been fined $5,000 by the stewards of the race meet for not dismounting from a lame horse.”
This is not the first occasion that a jockey has been fined for not dismounting from a lame horse.
