Turns the tables on Calculus

KINGSTON, Jamaica – When the programme came out for this year’s Chairman’s Trophy on Tuesday of this, there was a noticeable change of the rider chosen to mount up on Oneofakind. Trainer of the latter, Anthony Nunes decided to replace Robert Halledeen with Dane Nelson.
That move by Nunes turned out to be the difference, as Nelson produced a ride for the ages. In a stirring duel in the straight Oneofakind was able to beat perennial rival Calculus (Shane Ellis).
The Chairman’s Trophy was for three-year-old and upwards campaigners at the Open Allowance | Graded Stakes) class travelling 7 ½ furlongs.
It was the stablemate of Oneofakind, Sparkle Diamond (Tevin Foster) who set off in front followed by Awesome Treasure (Dane Dawkins), with Secret Identity (Matthew Bennett), Calculus, and Oneofakind glued together on the outside.
After Sparkle Diamond did his work, Secret Identity took over but as soon as she did, both Oneofakind and Calculus started to crowd the filly. By the time they reached the turn for home, it was Oneofakind with a slim advantage with Calculus breathing down his neck. Then came the ding dong battle between the two, with the strength and guile of Nelson getting the win by a neck over Calculus when the winning post arrived. Duke finished a distant third.
The final time was 1:33.0.
