Defeats non-winners of two by 7 ¾ lengths
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Citadel, a three-year-old chestnut gelding by Key To Power out of Wings of Hope in a performance that demonstrated his forward progress going into the Classics whopped three-year-old non-winners of two by all of 7 ¾ lengths at 7 ½ furlongs.
Racing in the Caymanas Saturday (March 19, 2022) first, The Citadel ridden by Dane Dawkins for trainer Ian Parsard was not the best away when the gates opened. Dawkins, however, got his mount going, and within a furlong and a half, The Citadel was a close fourth behind the duo of Loskop (Anthony Thomas), and Our Angel (Robert Halledeen), who were vying for the lead, with Peaky Blinders on the outside.
Luksol then took over, with The Citadel following well held on the inside rails.
That is how they entered the straight, and that is when The Citadel showed his clear Classic intentions pulling away with aplomb to win by 7 ¾ lengths. The winning time was 1:35.1 with splits of 23.4 x 47.0 x 1:12.2. This was The Citadel’s second win from his two starts.
Peaky Blinders (Phillip Parchment) did well to finish second with Our Angel third.
