Chestnut colt by Key To Power – Wings of Hope

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Newbie, The Citadel, a chestnut colt by Key To Power out of Wings of Hope caught the attention of racegoers with a noticeable  performance in winning the Caymanas Saturday seventh. The Caymanas Saturday seventh was a three-year-old Maiden Special Weight contest at 6 ½ furlongs.

It took some time for the handlers to get the 11 runners, five of whom were debutantes, to enter the starting barriers, but once the gates opened it was a rush for the headlines involving Freindofthefamily (Aaron Chatrie), Sunset Silhoutte (Anthony Thomas), El Cid (Robert Halledeen), and One Like It (Dane Nelson) racing on the outside.

Dane Dawkins on The Citadel, at this stage, was close to the back of the field with Stomp The Rhythm (Javaniel Patterson).

One Like It took over on the front end when navigating the half-mile turn and it wasn’t until there were three and a half furlongs to go that Dawkins started to push The Citadel.

One Like It took the field of three-year-olds into the lane for the final two furlongs with The Citadel trained by Ian Parsard quickening on the outside, and once he hit the front, he pushed on to score by 2 ½ lengths.

Sunset Silhoutte was second and Stomp The Rhythm third.  The winning time for the race distance was 1:23.1.
