BROMPTON ALEX SHEDS MAIDEN TAG IN MERCURY SPRINT

BROMPTON ALEX

Double for trainer Ryan Darby

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Brompton Alex racing for the second time dispatch rivals in the Mercury Sprint even though he was drawn in the dreaded number one post-position travelling down the five straight chute.
The Mercury Sprint was a three-year-old maiden event for colts and geldings only.
Brompton Alex trained by Ryan Darby with Oneil Mullings doing the riding duties immediately started to move to mid-track when the gates opened to release the 13 participants in this contest.
Having reached mid-track, Mullings watched as Sarge in Charge (Roger Hewitt), and Bugatti vied for the advantage.
When the horses reached the last two-furlong, Brompton Alex made his move and took over proceedings but Mullings had to push hard to thwart the late burst of Prince Sajay (Dane Nelson), who finished second. Third place went to another fast finisher Asurety (Robert Halledeen).
Brompton Alex, a chestnut gelding by Lion Tamer  out of Peccadillo, provided Darby with his second winner on the day.
