Sweety Man holds on to pip Mine That Cat by a nose
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Sweety Man made it two wins from five starts following a close win in the Caymanas Saturday fifth at odds of 5-1.
Sweety Man’s victory came in a four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of two) contest at six furlongs.
With Anthony Thomas in the saddle for trainer Oneil “Sweety Man”, Markland, Sweety Man was swiftly away from his starting stall but had to wait a while as Mister Mandate (Raddesh Roman), and Baton Rouge (Phillip Parchment) jostled on the front end. At this time, Mine That Cat (Christopher Mamdeen) was at the back of the pack as Honey Bunch (Samantha Fletcher) dwelt in the gates. But with three furlongs completed Thomas, the reigning champion made his move, and assumed control which he maintained into the lane for the final two furlongs.
Mamdeen then got Mine That Cat going on the inside and was making rapid progress as Sweety Man started to fade. Mine That Cat just failed to catch Sweety Man losing by a nose with Prosecco (Aaron Chatrie) earning third place.
Sweety Man was only the second winner in 2022 for Thomas.
