As three-year-old bay colt shows marked improvement

KINGSTON, Jamaica – It was a strong come from behind victory for Roraima (Bern Identity – Classic Princess) in the Caymanas Saturday (Jan 29) second.

The Caymanas Saturday second was a three-year-old Maiden Special Weight call at a mile.

With Dane Nelson in the saddle for champion trainer Anthony Nunes, Roraima got off to a good start but was quickly pulled back as Giant Wheeler (Anthony Thomas), and Thirtyonekisses (Prayven Badrie) contested for the lead.

After passing the four-furlong marker, Thirtyonekisses took over as Roraima raced way behind in fifth place. While completing the turn it was still Thirtyonekisses upfront as first-timer Scooby (Oshane Nugent) and Roraima got closer but still had much work to do.

In the last two furlongs, Nelson brought Roraima on the outside using the right-hand whip, while Nugent carried Scooby to the inside rails.

At the furlong pole, Nelson switched his whipping hand, and Roraima showing his likeness for the distance responded by pulling away to win by 1 ¼ lengths. Scooby gave an encouraging first run to finish second with Thirtyonekisses finishing third.
