A colt by maiden mare Streak of Luck
Spendthrift Farm's reigning Horse of the Year Authentic , the 2020 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) and Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner, sired his first reported foal January 16 when a colt was born at Taylor Made Farm near Nicholasville, Ky.
"This is a really nice foal out of a maiden mare. Correct, nice body, good angles, athletic-looking, and healthy. We are very happy," said Frank Taylor, Taylor Made's vice president of sales.
Bred by Marie Jones, the colt is the first foal out of the Old Fashioned mare Streak of Luck , a stakes winner and multiple graded-placed earner of US$352,109. Streak of Luck was purchased for US$620,000 at the 2021 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale by Aaron and Marie Jones while carrying the aforementioned colt. She was one of six mares at that sale to go for half a million dollars or more.
Authentic, a son of leading sire Into Mischief , retired to Spendthrift with earnings of US$7,201,200. He was a popular first-year stallion, covering 229 mares from a quality first book that yielded a 3.06 Comparable Index—top among all freshmen, according to Spendthrift. Authentic has also been a force at breeding stock sales as a covering sire, with in-foal mares selling for an average of US$396,481 to date. He is set to stand his second season at stud in 2022 for a fee of US$70,000 stands and nurses.
