KINGSTON, Jamaica – Title chasing trainer Jason DaCosta got a breather when the pugnacious Thegoodlife won the Caymanas Boxing Day Sunday seventh to earn the winners' purse of $475,000. That event was a maiden special weight for three-year-old fillies only at 5 ½ furlongs.
DaCosta who is in a titanic struggle for championship honours with Anthony Nunes started this race $240,845 in front but with the $475,000 earned by Thegoodlife, his lead is now $715,845.
Chance rider Phillip Parchment, who replaced Anthony Thomas, held Thegoodlife off the runaway leader Carol Strike (Matthew Bennett).
Carol Strike entered the lane still with the advantage but by then Thegoodlife and Queen Adele (Javaniel Patterson) were lurking on the outside.
Carol Strike started to shorten as Thegoodlife began to surge but no sooner after Thegoodlife took over she was challenged by Queen Adele but strong handling by Parchment allowed Thegoodlife to win by three parts of a length. Queen Adele was second and Carol Strike third.
