KINGSTON, Jamaica – THE QUICK GALLOPER has delved into the inner recesses of the 12 starters who will line up to participate in the 2021 renewal of the Ian Levy Cup scheduled for Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Caymanas Park. The Ian Levy Cup carries a total purse of $4 million, and is an Open Allowance/Graded Stakes contest for three-year-old and upwards horses, which will be run over 8 1/2 furlongs.
1 – There are no fillies in the 2021 Ian Levy Cup. Three of the lot are colts (Further and Beyond, Calculus, and Eroy); six are geldings (King Arthur, Santorini, Crimson, Hover Craft, Roy Rogers, and I Am Fred); with Sparkle Diamond, Supreme Soul and Rojorn Di Pilot listed as horses.

2 – The oldest horse in this race by far is Hover Craft, who has also won the most races. Hover Craft at 11 years has raced 138 times and has recorded 21 wins. Next in line in the age category are Crimson, Sparkle Diamond, Roy Rogers, Supreme Soul, and Rojorn Di Pilot, who are all five-year-olds. The four-year-olds are King Arthur and Eroy. The rest of the starters are three-year-olds, and those are, Further and Beyond, Santorini, I Am Fred and Calculus.
3 – Only one stallion is represented by more than one runner. Soul Warrior who stands at the HAM Stables is the sire of Supreme Soul (Soul Warrior – Beware Baby), and Santorini (Soul Warrior – Milestone).
4 – There are three foreigners in the Ian Levy. These are Sparkle Diamond, Eroy and I Am Fred.
5 – There are three Derby winners in the field. These are Supreme Soul (2019); King Arthur (2020), and Calculus in 2021.
6 – Santorini is the only horse in the group that occupies a place below the level of Overnight Allowance.
7 – Samantha Fletcher is the only female jockey to have secured a ride in the Ian Levy, and Fletcher is the only claiming apprentice in the race. Fletcher at the moment claims 3 kilogrammes.
