Star Lee goes one better
After finishing second by 1 ¼ lengths behind Money Marshall on last over the straight, Star Lee went one better when making all to win a native-bred five-year-old and upwards Restricted Allowance V (non-winners of two races) event over 6 furlongs (1,200m).
As the starter sent them on their way, Star Lee, trained by Victor Williams and ridden by Marshall Porter, jumped to the front and held his position well ahead of Dash of Class (Matthew Bennett) and Shashamani Dance (Paul Francis).
Going into the half-mile (800m) turn, Star Lee began to open up on rivals and entered the lane with a comfortable lead. Star Lee went on to win 7 ¼ lengths in the end. Black Royalty (Odeen Edwards) was second and Stacyslady (Jordan Barrett) third with a final time of 1:18.1.
Purposely in easy romp
Four-year-old by filly Purposely made light work of rivals in a four-year-old and upwards Restricted Allowance V event over 7 furlongs (1,400m).
Purposely, trained by Lee Clarke and ridden by Omar Walker, wasn’t off to a good start but quickly recovered, going into third place at the half-mile behind Nina Dorada (Javaniel Patterson) and Toughness (Youville Pinnock).
Hugging the inside rails, Purposely found an opening in deep stretch and sprinted clear to win the event by 7 ½ lengths in a time of 1:30.3. Toughness was second and Expeditious (Robert Halledeen) third.
Michael Marlowe notches his 16th winner in 2021
Trainer Michael Marlowe notched his 16th win for the year with six-year-old bay mare Congrats Suckie in a three-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($250,000-$200,000) call over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m).
Jockey Jerome “Cranberry) Innis held Congrats Suckie off the pace in fourth place behind Storming (Kiaman McGregor), My Mom Juss (Andre Powell), and Bay Commander (Robert Halledeen) down the backstretch.
Congrats Suckie made steady improvement at the half-mile to challenge Bay Commander for the lead but took over proceedings in late in deep stretch and got home by ¾ length. Bay Commander was second and Ridewiththemob (Anthony Thomas) third. The winning time was at 1:37.0.
Love Craft is finally off the mark
Three-year-old chestnut filly Love Craft finally found the winning post in front after beating rivals in a native-bred three-year-old Restricted Maiden Condition contest at 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m).
With Anthony Thomas riding for trainer Jason DaCosta, Love Craft raced in mid-pack and watched as Danny Marshall (Omar Walker) carried the field ahead of Stickydon (Phillip Parchment) and Dotlin (Raddesh Roman).
Love Craft continued to race behind the front runners leaving the half-mile before putting his bid for the lead approaching the final bend. Love Craft surged to the front in deep stretch and held her gallop well, winning by 4 ¼ lengths in a time of 1:23.3. Dancinginthebreeze (Marshall Porter) was second and Little Grovy Thing (Oshane Nugent) third.
Three horses claimed
In the fifth race, Gresford Smith claimed Bay Commander for owner Righteous One for $250,000 from Winchester McIntosh, Ryan Darby claimed Storming for owner Keisha Thomas for $250,000 from Dale Murphy, and Lawrence Freemantle claimed Ridewiththemob for owner Oliver Gustard, also for $250,000 from Fitzgerald Richards.
