KINGSTON, Jamaica – The race for the title of champion trainer 2021 is well and truly on.
Present statistics indicate that Jason DaCosta is close to $700,000 ahead of reigning champion Anthony Nunes.
The stage is now set for the final December surge by both conditioners starting on the platform of the December 4 race card.
The Overnight programme for December 4 is out, and there are some intriguing talking points to consider involving entries by both Nunes and DaCosta.
Please note that the race numbers used in this article are based on the Overnight. The final programme will be released tomorrow, Wednesday, December 1, 2021.
Race 2 on the Overnight, a $550,000 - $450,000) Claiming event, sees Nunes with one entry (Hecandance) and DaCosta also with one (My Times Now). Nunes 1 – DaCosta 1
In race 5, a four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of 3), DaCosta has nominated Tomohawk, while Nunes is absent. Nunes 1 – DaCosta 2
In race 8, a three and four-year-old (non-winners of 4), the rivalry between the two reaches a high point. In this eighth race, DaCosta has five horses (Sir John, Three Times Lucky, Billy Whizz, Iannai Links, and Den Street); while Nunes has two horses; Santorini and Bern Notice. Nunes 3 – DaCosta 7
In race 9, an Overnight Allowance call, DaCosta has two runners, I Am Fred, and Uncle Frank, while Nunes is represented by Legality. Nunes 4 – DaCosta 9
Race 10, the None Such Sprint (Open Allowance/Graded Stakes), both Nunes and DaCosta have one runner each, the former Sparkle Diamond, and the latter Eagle One. Nunes 5 – DaCosta 10
The final results of these races in which Nunes and DaCosta are involved might not have a significant impact on the outcome of the championship, but, for sure, they will add to the excitement which has already engulfed racegoers.
