KINGSTON, Jamaica – In a pulsating duel over the last furlong and a half, Storm Valley (Youville Pinnock 3-1) outbattled 4-5 favourite Smarty Tradition (Shane Ellis) to win the Caymanas Saturday (Nov 27) first.
This race was an Optional Claimer ($250,000 - $200,000) for three-year-olds and upwards horses going six furlongs.
The early leading position was a contest involving Storm Valley and Stormy Lady (Aaron Chatrie).
Storm Valley pulled away by three lengths rounding the turn to enter the straight with a clear advantage.
Ellis then brought Smarty Tradition to challenge on the outside with Pinnock pushing hard. Close to the one furlong marker Pinnock lost his whip allowing Ellis and Smarty Tradition to get on top.
Somehow Pinnock was able to get Storm Valley to rally and in the final hop got home by a short head.
Congrats Suckie (Jerome Innis) finished third.
