KINGSTON, Jamaica - The much anticipated Jamaica Day race meet is upon us. The date is Saturday, November 13, 2021 and the place is the home of horse racing Caymanas Park.

There are three major races on tap, the Jamaica Cup (9 ½ furlongs), the Port Royal Sprint (6 furlongs), and the St Elizabeth Distaff (one mile).

THE JAMAICA CUP

Eleven of the best thoroughbreds currently in training face off for the majority of the $6 million purse. 

Of the 11 starters, only Eroy is foreign bred. 

There are no fillies in the Jamaica Cup. 

No stallion has more than one of the starters. 

There are three Derby winners in the line-up | King Arthur, Calculus, and Supreme Soul. 

Billy Whizz and Daddy Jones of the 11 starters have the least number of wins – three each. 

As to be expected the oldest horse at 11 years is Hover Craft, who has the most wins - 17 from 136 career starts.

Hover Craft is also the main money-spinner having earned according to published figures $20,813,700. 

 

Traversing the dam lines the following have been noticed:

1 – Supreme Soul by Soul Warrior – Beware Baby. Beware Baby has produced Rumble, Taranis, Bigdaddykool, Khaleesi’s Revenge, and Shepanza. 

 

2 – Oneofakind by Fearless Vision – The Golden One. Golden One has produced Golden Glory, Thunderbele, Fearless Teblav, and Tricky One. 

 

3 – Crimson by Nuclear Wayne – Sarah Barracuda. Sarah Barracuda has produced Sarah Lee, Wow Wow, and Curlin’s Barracuda. 

There are four, three-year-olds in the Jamaica Cup; Further and Beyond, Billy Whizz, Daddy Jones, and Calculus.
