THE HORSES

There were at least three performances of note.

Let’s begin with a youngster.

Brinks (Bern Identity – Indian Bluff) trained, owned, and bred by Ian Parsard made an auspicious debut at 5 ½ furlongs. Parsard thus became the fifth trainer this season following Richard Azan, Jason DaCosta, Anthony Nunes, and Philip Feanny to reap success in a juvenile event. Brinks was bold on the headlines and strong in the final two furlongs giving a clear impression that he will be even better going longer. Looking on the racing calendar it appears that Brinks will be prepared for the upcoming (three weeks) seven-furlong Pick-3 Challenge Trophy, the second race of three in the two-year-old Triple series.

Next under THE QUICK GALLOPER’S equine microscope is Unruly Boss, a three-year-old chestnut colt by Bern Identity – Force Factor, who won his third race from five starts. This time Unruly Boss’ victory was even more significant because he was going longer than six furlongs, racing at a mile.

Unruly Boss was expertly handled by Anthony Thomas, who allowed his mount to settle without pushing too hard at the leader. Then Thomas made his winning move with enough left in reserve to hold off a forward surging Santorini.

Completing the list of horses being scrutinized is Nuclear Noon.

After running his heart out when finishing second in the 2000 Guineas, Nuclear Noon is more and more demonstrating that he is a sprinter, a come-from-behind sprinter, with seven furlongs probably being his limiting best at the highest level.

Nuclear Noon, a three-year-old bay colt by Nuclear Wayne – Noon It Is, has breezed through non-winners of four and Overnight Allowance. The question is where next? Nuclear Noon raced on Sunday, October 31, and again today (November 6, 2021). Now there is a possibility that Nuclear Noon will be in a starting stall next Saturday (November 13) in the $2.5 million Port Royal Sprint. If so, it would be three race days in succession, but THE QUICK GALLOPER believes that is highly unlikely at this time.

THE SIRES

THE QUICK GALLOPER last week started to take a closer look at the sires and their offspring. Featured then was the first crop Savoy Stomp, after the first and third finish respectively by Slammer and Silent Mission in the Cash Pot ‘Only One For Me’ Trophy.

This week's attention is placed on Bern Identity following the victories by Brinks and Unruly Boss.

This is the second crop for Bern Identity who stands on the Ian Parsard operated Paradise Stud Farm. Digging deeper Bern Identity is the sire of the top three-year-old filly She’s A Wonder (Bern Identity – Jamaican Dream), who currently plies her trade at the Open Allowance level. She’s A Wonder is the winner of the 2021 - 1000 Guineas and the Jamaica Oaks, and is the odds on favourite to win the Port Royal Sprint on November 13. She’s A Wonder is also the leading money spinner this season.

Apart from the exploits of She’s A Wonder there is another three-year-old filly Secret Identity (Bern Identity – Pomeroy’s Secret) who just ran under 58 seconds for five furlongs straight. Secret Identity trained by Tensang Chung is talented but seems to be hampered by niggling issues, which have curtailed her presence on the track. She was a late withdrawal from the upcoming St Elizabeth Distaff (November 13) over a mile, but is expected to race on the day.

Continuing with the three-year-olds there is the chestnut colt Bern Notice (Bern Identity – Blufield). Bern Notice got off to a slow start playing third fiddle in his stables (Anthony Nunes) behind the likes of Santorini, Calculus (in the early part of this year), and Further and Beyond.

Yet over the last 45 days or so racegoers are seeing a much-improved Bern Notice.

Perfect Brew, a two-year-old bay colt by Bern Identity – Moonlight Brew finished second behind Slammer in the Cash Pot with many pundits of the view that Perfect Brew was an unlucky loser. This juvenile has shown early promise and is to be watched.
