KINGSTON, Jamaica – The combination of jockey Dick Cardenas and trainer Patrick Lynch completed a double on the day when even-money favourite Bala Gris won the Caymanas Saturday sixth. The Cardenas|Lynch duo was successful in the third event with Ring Charmer.
Bala Gris got his fourth victory from 16 starts in a five-year-old and upwards |non-winners of four| call at seven furlongs.
Cardenas broke Bala Gris with the early pacesetters and did not waste much time to assume control of the event.
In the stretch, Bala Gris was well ahead but started to grope in the final furlong. This was when Black River (Samantha Fletcher) and Hecandance (Linton Steadman) arrived on the scene with their respective challenges.
In a driving finish, Bala Gris was just able to hold one to beat Black River by a neck with Hecandance another neck behind in the third slot.
