KINGSTON, Jamaica – The horse with the most races (three) under his girth Tekapunt scored in the Caymanas Saturday second to give his trainer Jason DaCosta the first double on the day.

Tekapunt (Phillip Parchment) was victorious in a two-year-old Maiden Special Weight contest at 5 ½ furlongs – the longest distance the juveniles have had to travel this season at piercing odds of 13-1.

Parchment watched in fourth place after the gates opened as Phoenix Risen (Shane Richardson) led the pack in front of 4-5 favourite Slammer (Dick Cardenas) and Princess Alani (Matthew Bennett).

Phoenix Risen increased her lead to straighten in front of the rest but Slammer (on the outside), Princess Alani (on the inside) were challenging. At this stage, Tekapunt (wide outside) was still not in his top stride.

In the final furlong, it was a bang-up finish with a flying Tekapunt under strong handling by Parchment able to nab Slammer in the final stride – winning by a short head while Slammer was a neck in front of Princess Alani.
