KINGSTON, Jamaica – It wasn’t the usual breaking speed which brought victory for the classy Mahogany in the Caymanas Saturday seventh – the Kilowatt Trophy.

The Kilowatt Trophy which honoured the three-time former Gold Cup winner was for horses (three-year-old and upwards) at the Open Allowance level going seven furlongs.

Victory Turn (Javaniel Patterson) blazed early splits of  22.3 x 45.1 followed by Harry’s Train (Ricardo Duhaney), Awesome Treasure (Jordan Barrett) and Eagle One (Dick Cardenas). At the four-furlong marker Mahogany (Dane Dawkins) was surprisingly way behind in fifth place. With 3 1/2 furlongs remaining in the contest Dawkins slowly by surely started to get Mahogany closer to the rampaging Victory Turn.

Victory Turn entered the straight with the lead but by now, Mahogany was almost level and the rest of the distance saw Mahogany moving further and further away to win by 8 lengths in a fast time of 1:24.4.

Laban (Oshane Nugent) finished second with the early speedster Victory Turn holding on for third.

Mahogany trained by Ian Parsard was winning his third race of the year from three starts.
