KINGSTON, Jamaica – Regal and Royal restated his claims as a possible placer in the upcoming Jamaica Derby (August 6) with a telling victory in the Caymanas Saturday tenth.

The day’s nightcap was a three-year-old (non-winners of two races) offering at 10 furlongs.

Baton Rogue (Dick Cardenas) set off in front and did so without much fuss down the backstretch followed by stablemate Sir John (Jerome Innis) and Sweet Majesty (Dane Nelson). At this stage Regal and Royal was settled in mid-pack.

After passing the half-mile point, Baton Rouge chucked the gallop as Sir John took over with Sweet Majesty and Regal and Royal bearing down.

Then Tevin Foster on Regal and Royal press the accelerator and the bay colt soared ahead never to be caught again, eventually winning by six lengths. Second was Sweet Majesty with Iannai Links third.

Regal and Royal provided his trainer Gary Griffiths with his second winner on the Saturday program.
